✨ AI-Enhanced Insights
Darwaz Airport (IATA: DAZ, ICAO: OADZ) is a small domestic airstrip serving the remote Darwaz district in Badakhshan Province, northeastern Afghanistan. Located at 38.462°N, 70.882°E near the Tajikistan border, it provides a vital but weather-dependent air link for a mountainous region that is otherwise difficult to reach by road. The airport handles limited passenger and charter traffic, with operations shaped by terrain, seasonal conditions, and local demand.
💡 Local Tip
Confirm your flight by phone or through a local agent the day before and again on the morning of departure; mountain weather can cancel or delay flights with little notice. Carry enough cash for the entire trip, since ATMs and reliable card payments are generally unavailable in the Darwaz area.
🚖 Getting There
There is no regular public transport at the airport, so arrange a private vehicle, shared taxi, or local pickup in advance. Road travel to Darwaz from Faizabad or other parts of Badakhshan is long, rough, and weather-dependent, often requiring a 4WD. If coming from Tajikistan, check border crossing status and permits carefully, as not all nearby crossings are open to general travelers.
