✨ AI-Enhanced Insights
Whitehorse / Erik Nielsen International Airport (YXY) is the main aviation gateway to Yukon, located just south of downtown Whitehorse. Originally built in 1942 as part of the Northwest Staging Route, it was renamed for longtime Yukon MP Erik Nielsen and today serves scheduled jet, regional, and seasonal charter flights. Its compact terminal and mountain-framed runways make it a convenient, distinctly northern arrival point.
💡 Local Tip
Frequent visitors know that winter weather can cause quick delays or diversions, so keep medications, chargers, and a warm layer in your carry-on even on short domestic hops.
🚖 Getting There
The airport is a short taxi or rental-car ride from downtown Whitehorse, with taxi stands outside the terminal. Whitehorse Transit service is limited, so confirm routes and times before relying on it. If you're heading to remote Yukon communities, allow extra time for weather and baggage handling.
