✨ AI-Enhanced Insights
Mafia Airport (MFA/HTMA) is a small island airport near Kilindoni on Mafia Island, Tanzania, and the main air gateway to the Mafia Island Marine Park. It primarily serves light aircraft connecting the island with Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and other Tanzanian coastal destinations. The airport has a simple, open-air terminal and a short runway suited to regional turboprop and twin-engine planes.
💡 Local Tip
Pack soft-sided luggage and keep to the small-aircraft baggage limit, usually around 15 kg per person; hard cases and excess bags may be difficult or expensive to accommodate on Mafia flights.
🚖 Getting There
Most visitors arrange a pre-booked transfer through their lodge or dive operator, as taxis and public transport around Mafia Island are limited. If you take a taxi from the airport, agree on the fare in Tanzanian shillings before departing. Allow extra time for unpaved roads, especially after rain.
